For the past 3 months, I have been engaged with a company where I had to work from their office .
This was a change for me as I have been WFx for the better part of the last 4 years where x has been Home, Cafes etc.
The one thing that I had missed the most about working from an office was the natural organic conversations that would happen as people would take a quick break from their work.
That’s how true connections are made instead of through planned official team meetings where the agenda is 95% business.
How can this be replicated for remote teams?
For people who have worked together for some time can probably ping each other and get on a quick call.
But a new employee who doesn’t know his or her colleagues well enough would find it difficult to interact outside of planned company meetings.
And you certainly can’t have a room/channel dedicated to just shooting the breeze or taking a break … or can you?
In some companies, the employees would be worried about their managers monitoring those rooms/channels.
In mature companies though, perhaps this could be a solution?
Any thoughts?
